Chanderi Handloom: GI Product
The chanderi Sarees have an elegant drape perfect for those flowy-pallu poses and fluffy pleats. This treasured handloom weave is an art form from Chanderi city of Madhya Pradesh. The finesse of the weave comes from a combination of soft cotton and silk yarns highlighting small golden and silver motifs and borders. The weave has a unique texture on feel, and transparent fabric qualities, is light in weight and comes in many solid colour shades all accentuated by glossy motifs. Due to its distinguished characteristics Chanderi Saree was awarded Geographical Indication Tag for Chanderi in 2005. The District of Ashoknagar adopted Chanderi Handloom as its ODOP product.

Strength:
Geographical Indication product has huge potential in Exports. GI product has its own strength of branding and marketing. Since it is a textile product, there are not many challenges from the supply side.
Weakness:
The product has no specific HS code, so domestic turnover or export data is not available. The product has not developed its international market yet even Indian textile and handloom products have a huge market outside.
Opportunities:
Due to increased e-commerce and publicity of GI products, Chanderi Handloom has a huge opportunity in the domestic and international markets. Processors are now equipped with export knowledge and will contribute to exports.
Threats:
In handloom handicraft products, there are many competitions from various fields. There are always chances for duplicity and misinformation about the product in the market.
