Nestled in the heart of Madhya Pradesh, Datia District enjoys a strategic geographical location, bordered by Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh to the north and Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh to the south.
While the district lacks direct railway connectivity, it is well-connected by road, with National Highway 44 passing through, linking it to major cities like Gwalior and Jhansi. The nearest railway station is situated in Jhansi, approximately 40 kilometers away, while Gwalior Airport serves as the closest major air transit hub, around 70 kilometers from Datia.
Datia's economic landscape is marked by a mix of agriculture, small-scale industries, and traditional craftsmanship. However, the district's economic focus revolves around agriculture, with a particular emphasis on the production of jaggery.
Jaggery has been chosen as Datia's One District One Product due to the region's abundant sugarcane cultivation, favorable climatic conditions, and expertise in traditional jaggery making.
This initiative aims to harness Datia's agricultural potential, promote rural livelihoods, and preserve indigenous practices while showcasing the district as a leading producer of high-quality jaggery in the region.

Jaggery-
Jaggery is unrefined natural sugar that is produced without adding any chemicals. More than 70% of the total world jaggery production is done in India. Jaggery is popularly known as the “medicinal sugar” and is nutritionally comparable with honey. It has been used as a sweetener in Ayurvedic Medicine for 3000 years. Indian Ayurvedic medicine considers jaggery to be beneficial in treating throat and lung infections. While refined sugar mainly consists of glucose and fructose, jaggery contains glucose and sucrose. But jaggery also has minerals and vitamins which lacks in the refined sugar. The mineral content of jaggery includes calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and iron and traces of zinc and copper. The vitamin content includes folic acid and B-complex vitamins. Thus, other than that it is a good source of energy, it also prevents rheumatic afflictions; prevents disorders of bile; helps in relieving fatigue, relaxation of muscles, nerves, and blood vessels; maintains blood pressure and reduces water retention; increases hemoglobin level and prevents anemia

Strength-
Jaggery is unrefined sugar having health benefits and is free of chemical, which leads to higher demand in the world market looking at the health scenario in the present times. Datia having the largest agro infrastructure in the Madhya Pradesh has very good opportunity to develop jaggery market in the world.
India holds third rank in the top world exporters of the product and has a huge potential of reaching the top slot. Biggers’s competitors are Brazil and India presently holding the top two ranks, respectively
Weakness:
Numerous small-scale units prepare jaggery in Datia. Promoting mechanized preparation along with improving quality and branding can capture wider and emerging market globally.
Opportunities:
Supportive Government backing the investors which can help in taking large scale commercial farming to major ginger clusters.
Farmer Education: Significant investment is required in education and relevant support services to give small & marginal farmers the necessary skills and knowledge to increase productivity, improve the quality of the produce and reduce waste.
Threats:
We need to grab market from world major exporters through quality improvement and cutting down the cost of transportation.
