Dindori, a district in the heart of India's Madhya Pradesh, is graced with the Maikal Hills' scenic beauty and extensive forests. The district is well-connected by National Highway 43, facilitating seamless road transport to major cities and trade centers. Although Dindori does not have its own railway station, the rail networks of nearby Jabalpur and Bilaspur extend their reach to this region. Jabalpur Airport, located a short drive away, provides air connectivity to Dindori.
The district's economy is primarily agricultural, with rice cultivation being a significant activity. Dindori's parboiled rice is particularly renowned and forms a substantial part of its exports, contributing to the local economy. The region also engages in mining, extracting valuable minerals that further bolster industrial development.
Dindori's 'One district one product' initiative has proudly selected Kodo Kutki Millet as its representative product. This ancient grain is chosen for its nutritional benefits and its resilience to the local climatic conditions, making it a sustainable agricultural choice. The promotion of Kodo Kutki Millet under this initiative aims to enhance Dindori's economic profile by supporting local farmers and introducing this nutritious millet to wider markets.
This comprehensive approach to economic development, encompassing robust infrastructure, agricultural prowess, and strategic promotion of local products like Kodo Kutki Millet, positions Dindori as a district with promising growth prospects and a commitment to sustainable practices.
One District One Product, Dindori
Kodo millet is rich in fiber, protein, B vitamins, calcium, iron, and magnesium, making it a wholesome dietary choice. Its culinary versatility is evident in dishes like dosas, idlis, upma, and porridge. In recent years, there has been a resurgence in millet cultivation due to its health benefits and climate-resilient nature, contributing to sustainable agriculture and food security efforts. It is part of the Millet – Sri Anna – Mission of the Government of India. Kutki: Kutki Millet is a small-grained, drought-resistant cereal crop that has been traditionally grown in hilly terrains and is well-suited for high-altitude environments. Kutki millet is known for its resilience in harsh climates, making it a valuable crop for mountainous regions where other crops might struggle. Like other millets, it is valued for its nutritional content and is a source of dietary fiber, protein, and essential nutrients. It is part of the Millet – Sri Anna – Mission of the Government of India.

Strength-
India is the world's largest millet-producing country. Due to high health benefits, the demand of millet is rising rapidly. UN observed the year 2023 as 'Millet Year' and the Government of India celebrates Millet Year as Sri Anna year. So several measures have been adopted to promote millets in India and the world. Madhya Pradesh is one of the producers of millet in India.
Weakness:
The export of both products is less than one crore. So no export market is developed for both products.
Opportunities:
Due to increased e-commerce and publicity of millets, Kodo Kutki have a huge opportunity in the domestic and international markets. Farmers and processors are now equipped with export knowledge and will contribute to exports.
Threats:
Agro products are subject to quality, taste, and cultural aspects. If the product cannot absorbed in local culture, there will be no development in Exports.
