KHARGONE
Khargone District, situated in western Madhya Pradesh, features diverse geography, including fertile plains, hills, and forests.
The district is endowed with mineral resources such as limestone, sandstone, and quartzite, supporting industries like cement manufacturing and stone quarrying.
Agriculture is the predominant occupation, with crops like wheat, soybeans, maize, pulses, and oilseeds being cultivated extensively.Major exports from Khargone District include agricultural produce such as soybeans, wheat, maize, and oilseeds. Additionally, minerals like limestone contribute to the export economy.
As for the ODOP product, "Chilly" is selected. Chilly is known for its multiple use in food products. Selecting Chilly as the ODOP product could be justified due to its vast utilisation significance, potential for farming promotion, and the preservation of traditional farming techniques.

India is the largest producer, consumer and exporter of chilli in the world. Chilli contributes 31% of the total spice export from India with an economic share of Rs. 8429.92 Crore (Spice Board, 2021). India followed by China, Pakistan and Bangladesh nearly contributes 55% of the total world chilli production. Further, the raw material abundance and ease of labour availability are some of the factors driving regional growth. Chilly is an ODOP product of the Khargone District of MP.

SWOT Analysis
Strength-
- The Red Chilly of Madhya Pradesh has very high-quality Capsaicin which gives pungency also it has a high intensity of red.
- It is in huge demand due to its rich aroma, prickly hot taste, and rich red colour.
- With the government investing heavily in the market linkage for agricultural produce, Chilly is one of the focus crops for the state.
Weakness:
- Lack of Infrastructure for cold chains like Cold stores, Pack houses, and Reefer Vans, test laboratories.
- Farm Aggregation: The majority of the plantations including Chilly Plantation in Madhya Pradesh are small land holdings. Investment into the aggregator segment for the crop can be a huge business opportunity for the private sector.
- Farmer Education: Significant investment is required in education and relevant support services to give small & marginal farmers the necessary skills and knowledge to increase productivity, improve the quality of the produce and reduce waste
- Poor Market Linkage and packaging Techniques for fresh produce.
- Farmers are Not Aware of the Standard Quality Norms Acceptable in International Markets.
- Grading & packing units for exports
Opportunities:
- Processing of Chilly: Red Chilly, powder, green chilly cut dried, Fresh chilly, red Chilly powder, Dried green chilly is having huge demand in the European market.
- Growing export markets in the USA, Germany, UK, France, Canada, the Netherlands and many more
- Offering huge investment opportunities, Madhya Pradesh can lead the country in terms of Chilly and its by-product exports.
- Supportive Government backing the investors which can help in taking large-scale commercial farming to major Chilly clusters.
