So the future for the farmers and processors for the growing, storing, and procession of pigeon peas is very bright. The District of Narsingpur has chosen Pigeon Pea (Toor Dal) as ODOP Product.

Strengths

1. India is the largest producer, consumer, importer and exporter of pulses in the world. Madhya Pradesh is the second largest producer of pulses after Rajasthan in India. So the ecosystem of production, processing, packaging and marketing of pulses and toor dal is being developed in Madhya Pradesh.

Weakness:

1. India is a pulses deficit country and the largest importer in the world. So exports of the pulses are always on the watchlist subject to supply and demand in the local market.
2. Even though Madhya Pradesh is the second largest producer of pulses, its strength in exports in Toor Dal is not exploited to the fullest extent.

Opportunities:

1. Large-scale investment in food processing industries, increasing production through planned irrigation, entry of new entrepreneurs, and awareness about exports are creating new opportunities for exports.
2. District Narsinghpur established several FPO, Brands, processing, and packaging units for Pigeon Pea which will create large opportunities in import substitution and export generation.

Threats:

1. The growing domestic price of pulses always creates suspicion on the export market of pulses.
2. Farmers in the region due to local conditions sometime divert towards rice and paddy in place of pulses.

Activities Under ODOP Initiative : Narsinghpur

Gadarwara Pigeon pea and Kareli's jaggery are making waves in the agricultural landscape, thanks to the One District One Product initiative. The journey towards recognition and upliftment has been marked by significant milestones.

From January 8th to 10th, 2021, stalls showcasing Kareli's jaggery and Gadarwara pigeon pea were set up at the Gudd Mela in both Bhopal and Indore, garnering attention and interest.

Fast forward to September 14th-15th, 2023, a pivotal workshop/business meet at NTPC Gadarwara, Narsinghpur, brought stakeholders together, setting the stage for strategic discussions and planning.

Following this, a remarkable event unfolded from February 13th to 15th, 2023, as Gadarwara pigeon pea and Kareli's jaggery proudly represented at the G20 summit in Indore.

Culminating in a grand finale, a Pigeon Pea and Jaggery Fair was organized between January 6th to 8th, 2023, showcasing the rich flavors and cultural heritage of the region. These initiatives underscore the commitment towards sustainable growth and prosperity, positioning Gadarwara and Kareli of Narsinghpur as beacons of agricultural excellence.
